October 21, 1944 - June 12, 2018
Chuck Robbins On June 12, 2018, we suddenly lost an outdoorsman, a great protector of public lands, a consummate flyfisher, husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Chuck was on the river guiding when his heart decided it was tired. Born October 21, 1944 in Roswell, New Mexico, Chuck spent his youth in Pennsylvania and his passions in Montana. Chuck wore many hats in his life but what he loved the most was being a freelance outdoor writer and photographer with his wife Gale and their Wirehair partners. Chuck and Gale spent many years traveling along the back roads of Montana, encountering various adventures together with their dogs. Some of their more notable adventures included being chased by an angry mother moose, loosing their newest pup down a mineshaft (thankfully she was unhurt and rescued by the Beaverhead Search and Rescue), and annual bird hunting trips to Arizona with friends. Many are mourning the loss of this great story teller and teacher. They include his wife Gale of Dillon and her daughter and son in-law, Kris and Kevin Christensen of Helena; children Mark and Jodi Robbins, Wade and Sherry Robbins, Kristin and Dave Klinefelter, seven grandsons, one grand-daughter, and two great-grandsons, all of Pennsylvania; and brothers John Robbins of Pennsylvania and Rick Robbins of Georgia. Several friends, co-workers (or should we say fellow story tellers and guides), and clients will miss Chuck’s fishing knowledge, willingness to teach, and patience –until you got him fired up about public land access or Penn State football. Mostly likely missing him most are his Wirehairs Annie and Maggie, wondering when he will come home to take them for a walk or some bird hunting. There will be a celebration of Chuck’s life later this summer in Dillon. Love ya and miss you Chuck!
