Jean Marie (Hust) Smith peacefully passed away in her sleep on May 12, 2025. Jean was known for her friendly demeanor and her ability to bring joy to everyone she encountered. Her smile and personality could light up any room, and she was always full of love for those she knew.
Jean graduated from high school in 1964 and married her beloved spouse in November of 1969. Together, they raised five sons. Jean worked as a nurses assistant for many years and also assisted her husband in road construction. She cherished spending time in the mountains, enjoying activities such as camping, fishing, and hunting. Even after her children grew up, Jean continued to spend considerable time with her grandchildren in the mountains.
Later in life, Jean and Dee traveled south to Arizona to spend winters in warmer climates. After Dees' passing in October 2014, Jean felt lost and moved to Roundup about a year later. In Roundup, she spent much of her time with her brothers and sisters-in-law. Jean relocated back to Dillon in May 2024 to be closer to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cherishing every moment she spent with them.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Eva Hust; her husband, Dee Smith; her brother, Dan Hust; her sister-in-law, Joann Hust; her sister-in-law, Debby Hust; and her grandson, Austin Smith. She is survived by her brother, Albert (Debbie) Hust; her brother, Robert Hust; her sons, James West, Cliff (Anita) Smith, Steve (Danyella) Smith, Bill (Jennifer) Smith, and Rod Smith; as well as many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for May 30, 2025, at 1 pm at Jackson School. The celebration of Jean's life will include a potluck gathering.
