William Bernard Jappe

We cannot control what each day will bring, but we can choose the attitude with which we face each day. Bill greeted each day with a cheerful "Good Morning and a Genuine Joy of Life." He had a gift for making people welcome, often greeting friends with a special nickname that was uniquely theirs.

William (Bill) Jappe passed away July 7, 2026. He was born in Lodge Grass, MT., at home to George and Carrie Jappe. He came from a family that immigrated from Germany and homesteaded near Big Sandy, MT.

Bill attended high school in Lodge Grass, MT., briefly attended college before answering the call to serve his county where he proudly served four years. Upon his discharge from the army, he returned to Lodge Grass where he married, began raising a family and embarked on a career that would define most of his life's achievements. Bill then moved to Townsend, MT. managing and earning a reputation for building, strengthening and growing a successful business through his leadership and vision. In 1967, he moved to Dillon, MT., where he continued his career with Cenex. Throughout the years, his vision and leadership led to the development of two self-service convenience stores, a car wash, and real-estate business before his final retirement.

Later Bill remarried and welcomed two more children into his family. Above all else, Bill's greatest priority was his family, his children and their many friends. He enjoyed every moment he spent with his children and grandchildren sharing stories, laughter, and creating memories they will cherish. He shared the unique privilege of helping one granddaughter grow up.

The family is deeply grateful for the two Hren ladies that played gin every day/week with Bill, Raymond Graham and Marie Holt were there any time of day or night. Family extends their gratitude for all the kindness, friendship and support given to Bill by many others that allowed him to remain in his home.

Bill is survived by wife Margaret (Marg) of 59 years, children Karolin Jappe, Delila (Dee) Boka and Garth Bruce and later he welcomed Susan Garner.

Known for his cheerful spirit, and playful nicknames, he left people smiling wherever he went. There was always a story behind the nickname that needed to be told.

He was a long time Shriner and those wishing to honor his memory may make a donation to the Shrine or to the charitable organization of your choice.
