Roy Baker

August 31, 1955 — February 8, 2022

Roy Baker passed away on February 8, 2022 at age 66 Roy grew up in Wisdom, Montana, with his sister, Robin and grandparents Roy and Anna Baker. He had fond memories of his grandmother and loved her baked goodies. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter from youth. He was also a hotshot on skis and good at football and bowling. He took auto mechanics in school to help his grandfather in the shop. Roy had many jobs; working on a ranch for the Huntley’s in the Big Hole Valley; logged and hauled loads to Valdez, Alaska; Silver mining for a short time in Durango, Colorado; L and S Concrete where he poured the foundations for many houses in the area, until a back injury in 1998 and again in 2004. He did whatever he could do to keep busy after that time. Roy loved to visit and always had time to talk. He guided elk hunts and made fast friends that he has kept in touch with for over 30 years. He and his buddies loved to hunt, fish and 4-wheel. His favorite local spot to visit was the 4-B’s Coffee Shop. Those working there made his day. You could find him running around on his 4-wheeler in the winter doing sidewalks or helping someone out. He married Deb DeShazo in 1998 and inherited 3 adult sons. He enjoyed teaching them the hunting grounds. He went to Alaska fishing with Jerry and had a great time. He loved to harass them when they didn’t catch fish. Of course, Roy could catch a fish out of a bucket in the front yard. He became a grandpa to 11 grandkids over the next 23 years. Roy enjoyed interactions with Cameron and his family and Jason and his family when they would come to Dillon. Roy looked forward to his sister Robin and Marc’s yearly trips to Montana. He befriended many dogs and had three of his own. You can find dog treats in his pockets and his truck. Roy is survived by his wife, Deb Baker. Son Justin Krogedal of Wisdom, MT. Daughter Valerie Baker. Step-sons: Jerry (Angie) Saari, Dracy, Skyla, Kelsy. Jason (Mindy) Saari, Cameron (Fernanda), Jaina, Jaden, Ryan. Cameron (Regina) Haworth, Steven, Zander, Enoch. Sister Robin (Marc) Selover, Nephews Brent (Audrey) Eaves, Hanna, Michael, Bethany, Autumn. Eric (Gina) Eaves. Mother-in-law (Mom) Helen DeShazo. Nieces Sheala (Erik) Perkins, Tatiana, Sequoia and Mason. Adrianna Dahlman Mills and Sonny Dahlman. An outdoor celebration of life will be planned for May. Please write a tall tale about fishing, hunting, bowling or whatever story to share in honor of Roy.
