Robert Leslie Buyan

Robert (Bob) Leslie Buyan, aged 83 of Billings, MT, passed away September 6, 2026. He was born May 16, 1943, in Butte, MT, to Joseph and Helen (MacMillan) Buyan. Bob was raised on the family ranch in Melrose, MT. The family moved to Dillon, MT, in 1966 where Bob attended and graduated from Beaverhead County High school. Bob lived and worked in Dillon and surrounding areas for many years before moving to Billings, MT. Bob was proud to be a Marine and having served his country. He was also proud of being a cowboy, father, family member, and friend.

He was always full of stories from his childhood on the ranch in Melrose. A favorite story was about driving his Grandpa Tony in the "jitney" even though Bob was too little and could not see over the steering wheel. He also had ones that included his time serving in Vietnam, as well as the many, many other stories fondly involving family and friends. Not only was he a gifted storyteller, but quite the quick-witted jokester which kept everyone laughing and on their toes. His smile and laughter were infectious; he made friends everywhere he went.

Bob lived an incredibly full life and made the most of every day and moment he was present in leaving behind a legacy of memories for all who were touched by him.

The family extends their deepest appreciation to his wonderful friends near and far. Your presence, kindness, and connection enriched his life in ways words can barely capture.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Helen Buyan of Dillon, MT, and his sister Lynn "Fred" (Terry) Williamson of Great Falls, MT. He is survived by his two daughters Candi (Elvin) Stanton of Newcastle, WY; Tami (Scott) Buyan-Wetsch of Billings, MT; grandsons Adam (Jamie) Cobb of Eaton, CO, and Blake (Kristi) Cobb of Douglas, WY; granddaughters Sydney Harris of Billings, MT, Sadie (Robbie) Stinchfield of Roseville, CA, and Tiernan Stanton of Newcastle, WY; as well as great-granddaughters Grace Harris, Hadlie Harris, and Karsyn Cobb, and great-grandsons Jaxon Stinchfield, Stockton Cobb, and Daxen Pearson. He is also survived by his many bonus grandchildren and extended family members, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

Funeral services will be held in Dillon, MT, September 18, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Brundage Funeral Home with interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. An additional celebration of life will be held at the Western Empire Emporium in Billings, MT, at a future time.
