Martha Ann Troth, 90, of Dillon, Montana passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 28, 2026. She was vibrant and engaged with life through her final days. She was found deceased in her home, having fallen from a heart attack.
Born on December 31, 1935, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, Martha was the daughter of Mary and George F. Manandise. She was married to Alfred Carl Troth of Monessen, PA on June 15, 1957. Both were graduates of the California State Teachers College in California, PA. The young couple moved from south of Pittsburgh to the Williamsport area of north-central Pennsylvania where they taught for 15 years. They moved permanently to Dillon in 1973 with their son, Eric.
Martha became a Title I tutor in the Dillon school system, spending most of her years in the earlier grades at the Mary Innes School. After retiring, she worked as a volunteer in the gift shop at Barrett Memorial Hospital. Martha was passionate about sewing and crafts. She made clothing and outdoor gear for the family in the early years, knitted socks, hats, and scarves, crocheted scrubbies, and made gift cards. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and puzzles. Her cooking and recipes were renowned. In spite of being on full-time oxygen at the end of her life, Martha remained physically active, pushing her walker around the neighborhood and attending water classes at the YMCA.
Martha actively shared her talents as a mentor to a number of younger women. She was cheerful, generous, and kind, beloved among her circle of friends and all those who met her. Her son was blessed to have spent time with her daily throughout her final years, including taking local walks and scenic drives around southwest Montana.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, brother Merle Manandise, and husband Alfred Troth. She was a loving and devoted caregiver for her mother, brother, and finally her husband, who suffered from Parkinson's and dementia in his later years, passing in 2012 after 55 years of marriage. She is survived by her son, Eric Troth of Dillon.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2026 4-6pm in the St. James Guild Hall, 203 E Glendale St. in Dillon.
Martha was a bright light in her community and will be dearly missed.
