Our dear mother passed on March 7, 2026 at Pioneer Nursing Home.
She was born June 9, 1935 to Mattie and William Earl Swann in Taliaferro County, Crawfordville, Georgia. She was raised there. She had 2 sisters and 3 brothers. She attended public school until the age of 17. At which time, her father passed. Lorene left school to work and assist her mother in providing for the family.
She married Marion Hatfield on May 10, 1957. They made their way to Montana to enjoy the scenery and live in the beauty of the state. They were together 68 years. They had 6 children who she deeply loved. Four boys and two girls had the pleasure of calling her "mom" Family was everything to her. She was an outstanding and loving mother to them all and an outstanding wife to Marion. Caring for her husband and children was her priority.
She loved the weather of the south with long growing seasons. She enjoyed gardening and caring for plants. Lorene made the most of Montana's summer. She grew plants and vegetables every year. Her yard was full of flowers every summer. Her favorite flower was dinnerplate dahlias.
She was an active member of First Presbyterian church. The church was very important to her.
For years, she performed custodial service for the church, She would sing old gospel songs at home. She had a beautiful voice. Everybody who knew Lorene found her to be a sweet and special lady. She had many friends who enjoyed being around her. She became a resident of Pioneer Care & Rehabilitation in 2012 with her husband. While at Pioneer Care & Rehabilitation, she became friends with everyone employed there. She was loved by many.
She enjoyed being with her family. She participated in fishing, hunting and camping with all of them whenever the opportunity occurred. Christmas with all family members was a special time of year. They were all together.
She worked at the Parkview Acres Nursing Home at night as a nurses aid when her children were small. She then assisted people with their household cleaning projects and became friends with all of them.. She worked at the Lion's Den for several years, She went back to cleaning for people for a few years. She then stopped working due to physical limitations.
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, sons, Myron and Marty and beloved daughter-in-law, Tammy.
She is survived by daughters Marlene (Jim) Williamson, Marsha (Marty) Malesich and sons Mark (Angela) and Marlon. Grandchildren Brad, Jamie, Keith and Brittany and several great grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed by her friends and family. She brought so much love and joy to them all.
