Kermit Curtis Lawver

November 5, 1938 — June 28, 2024

Sheridan

Kermit Lawver, age 85, passed away with his wife Norma by his side on June 28, 2024, due to complications from Parkinson's disease.

Kermit was born in Wessington Springs South Dakota to parents, Alvin and Sylva Ellen (Cook) Lawver, and raised in Gann Valley. He graduated from Northern State University in Aberdeen, with a bachelor's degree in education. He taught for a brief time in South Dakota before deciding to head for Elk hunting grounds in Montana. Kermit never looked back and settled into a teaching career in Dillon, MT where he is still fondly remembered by many former students. He was, "Mr. Lawver, my 7th grade math teacher". Kermit went on to receive his master's degree from Western Montana College.

Kermit met and married Norma Nye in 1997. Together, they enjoyed the great outdoors. You would find the perfect partners hunting, fishing and four-wheeling the Ruby Valley and beyond. Kerm enjoyed a good cribbage game and a cold beer anytime.

He was larger than life and he lived in the same manner. Kerms quick wit and generous spirit will be missed by all that knew him.

Kermit is preceded in death by his parents, bothers, Larry, Donald, LeRoy and Dale Lawver and a sister, Donna Martinez.

He is survived by his wife, son Jim (Tana) Nye of Montana and granddaughter Lacey Kraft of Idaho. His brothers, Ken of Kansas; and Ronnie of South Dakota, four sisters, Leita Brobjorg of Virginia, Evelyn (Clayton) Knippling, Lyla (Jerry) Peterson, and Lois Johnson, all of South Dakota and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the following providers for his gentle care: BeeHive Homes, Peace Hospice and Ruby Valley Medical Center

Services will be held on July 15, 2024 at Brundage Funeral Home at 11:00 AM, with a celebration of Kermit's life immediately following at the Elk's Lodge, Dillon Montana.

In remembrance of Kermit's life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, or Dillon MT Elk's Lodge No. 1554.
