May 26, 1942 - September 8, 2025

David C Hilger (Lt. Col Ret.) died on September 8, 2025 of Alzheimer’s disease. He was raised in Dillon, Montana. Dave was both an outstanding student and athlete, participating in football, basketball and track at Beaverhead County High School. After graduation from the University of Montana, he married Dianne Pendergast. He then began a twenty-seven year career in the Air Force, and eventually retired as a Lt. Colonel in Colorado Springs. Additionally, he had a second career in government contracting. 

Dave was preceded in death by his parents Edith and Edwin Hilger, and by his brother Pete of Billings, Montana. 

He is survived by his children Eddy Hilger and Mari Hilger Skura, by his wife Sherry Hilger, by his former wife Dianne Hilger, and by seven grandchildren. 

Dave was a loving husband and a loving, hands-on father. He was also an avid game hunter, bringing home game for the family table and sharing game with families in need. Dave was known for his generosity and kindness, and his memory is treasured by his family and friends. 

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 5th at The Elks Lodge in Butte, Montana at 3:00 pm. 

The interment, with military honors, will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, October 6th at the Mountain View Cemetery in Dillon, Montana.
