DARLENE MAY RHOADS

Darlene May Karr Rhoads (Hughes) was born in Cheney, Washington on May 28th, 1939 to Lester and Charlotte Karr. She passed away peacefully on January 10th, 2024 at the age of 84.

Darlene's father was an accomplished mechanic, a trait that was passed down to all of her sons. Darlene's mother was an incredible cook, a trait that was passed down to her only daughter. Darlene's parents passed away while she was young, so she and her brother (Neil) went to live with their foster mother (Mabel). Darlene fondly remembered her as a loving, caring person, who would do anything for a child, always making them a priority. This was how Darlene grew to be a great mother and friend.

Darlene lived in several states throughout the northwest, including Montana, eventually settling in Dillon. The community knew her as an extremely attentive bartender, and an exceptional waitress/hostess. She enjoyed serving the public, especially when she had the chance to meet somebody new.

Darlene felt that she lived a "privileged life," explaining that it was her "privilege" to be a mother. She enjoyed raising her children and always wanted to cook something for them. Her favorite memories were of visits with her children, especially the holidays. The only thing better than that, was when her children would bring their own children to visit.

Darlene was preceded in death by her father, mother, foster mother, brother, and a host of beloved pets. They are all reunited now, and she enjoys the family of her childhood once again.

Darlene is survived by her children Tom Rhoads (Shirlean), Diana Carroll (Bob), Mike Hughes, Shawn Hughes (Nicole), and Ben Hughes (Aimee). She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held at Brundage Funeral Home on Saturday, January 27th, at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at the Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, it is Darlene's wish that you would spend time with a child or a pet, giving them a special treat and a hug.
