Verona Eby

June 7, 1935 — March 3, 2018

Verona May Nettik Eby was born on June 7, 1935 in Dillon, Montana to Edward & Verna Nettik. She attended schools in Dillon, graduating from BCHS in 1953 and attending 1 year at WMC. She most enjoyed her work at the big dipper when she was younger. She grew up with 2 brothers, Ernie (Mary Ellen) and Mickey who made her afraid of cats. She met and fell in love with “her everything”, George Eby and was married on August 1, 1958 at her parent’s house in Dillon. Some bet the marriage would not last but this year would have been 60 years together. The couple lived in Butte where Sandi was born and then Ed came into the world there. Road construction took them back to Dillon where they had the makings of a “perfect family”. Verona went to work at the Beaverhead County Assessor’s Office where she worked for 35 years until her retirement in 1997. She also volunteered at the Dillon Elks for 30+ years and enjoyed every minute of it. Verona & George were inseparable and enjoyed many years bowling, following the kids to their sporting events, getting a baseball mitt for her 40th birthday and road tripping with friends to Jack Pot, Wendover, Mesquite, Tahoe, Laughlin, Reno and Vegas. She and George determined each day who would be the “boss” by the best 2 out of three cribbage games. During her spare time, Verona was known for making afghans and the best chocolate chip cookies ever! When in High School Verona made a trip to Alaska and said she would NEVER fly again even though she had super flight benefits from Ed’s employment. George & Ed did talk her into flying to Alaska to visit her special Aunt Toots – she didn’t remember much of that flight but still didn’t want to step foot on another plane. She very much enjoyed time spent playing pinochle with her Uncle Smokey and Aunt Betty Lou. Verona loved intensely and was loved by her Granddaughter, Lindsey and Grandson, Evan who she considered her pride and joy because she waited 72 years for a Grandson. Now she has had the opportunity of meeting her 4 great Grandchildren and was deeply blessed! Verona was preceded in death by her parents, numerous Uncles & Aunts and classmates. She is survived by her loving husband, George, daughter Sandi, son Ed, grandchildren and great Grandchildren plus brothers, aunt & precious cousins.
