Lois Grube

February 12, 1937 — November 7, 2020

Lois Grube 1937-2020 Margaret Lois Andrus was born to Mary Amanda Higbee and Joseph Lee Andrus, on February 12, 1937 in the sandhills of Ora, ID. She was the youngest of 10 children that Mary had. Lois attended school in Ashton, Idaho, and spent her summers riding and tending cattle with her dad. She married Jimmie Lee Grube on October 16, 1954 in Stevensville, MT. They started their married life in Ashton, ID., with Jim working for the county plowing snow and grading roads. Helping Jim with various jobs helped fill her time over the next few years. Jim and Lois moved to the Huntley Ranch in Wisdom, MT in the fall of 1963. With this move, came a whole new job description for her. Lois took on the job of ranch cook at the tender age of 26. This was an adjustment, as Jim said when they married, she didn’t know how to boil water. She became known throughout the Big Hole Valley for her bread making skills and she shared her recipes with most anyone who asked. She followed Jim to other jobs over the years, always ranching. In 1998, she got sick and was eventually diagnosed with dementia, and it changed all our lives. Jim and Lois moved to the Stocker Ranch in Horse Prairie so her daughter, Kim, could help care for her. Lois continued to help with work on the ranch, whether it was riding, raking hay, picking rock, building fence, hanging laundry, or helping in the kitchen. The next 22 years were filled with laughs, tears, and much adventure. Lois is survived by her husband of 66 years, and her two children Kim (Steve) Hirschy, and Matt (Kelle) Grube, 4 grandchildren Dustin (Natasha) Hirschy, Brandy Hirschy (Willis), Jeremy (Jenifer) Grube, Echo Grube (Brandon), and 8 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Brundage Funeral home in Dillon, MT, on November 14, 2020 at 2:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Widsom Community, attention Library, P.O. Box 66, Wisdom, MT 59761.
