Kelly Neal Brewer

December 1, 1939 - June 5, 2016

“Nana” Kelly Brewer was a free spirit who came to Dillon, MT from the Big Island of Hawaii in 2006. Along with her companion German Shepard Dog “Bear”, Kelly rooted herself into the community, making Dillon, Montana and all of its beauty her new home. Sadly, Kelly passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016. The discovery of aggressive pancreatic cancer a few weeks ago led to a brief but valiant fight against the pain this type of illness brings. And anyone who knows Kelly knew she loved a good fight. She passed peacefully, comfortably, with family close by, under the most amazingly clear skies Montana can offer. The Big Island of Hawaii is where Kelly adopted the name of “Nana”. Having moved from the Big Island from Idaho Falls, ID, with her son Alex, she was immediately struck by the beauty of the Island’s children and she set out to give each one she found a sense of love, understanding and self-worth. Appointing herself as the island’s “Nana” she set up shop and showed both visiting and local children the magic of Hawaii and the wonder they possessed inside. Kelly loved Montana, and Dillon especially, and it was the perfect new home when she retired from childcare. She was happiest walking her dog Charlie and when in nature, feeling the Montana sun on her face. This love is best expressed by the quote below: “And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair” -Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet Her last days were filled with warmth and laughter and spent at home being cared for by her son, Alex. The community and people of Dillon were also there for her in the end, visiting her, praying with her, supporting her and sometimes smoking with her on the front porch. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Alex Brewer-Disarufino and Courtney Dickerson, daughter Debbie Peebler, son-in-law Gary Peebler, grandchildren Brandon and Nicole Peebler, daughter Kim Adams, daughter Robin Massa, granddaughter Stephanie Massa, son P.J. Casper and son John Wahl. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Brundage Funeral home, 300 South Atlantic Street, Dillon, MT 59725, on Saturday June 11 at 3:00 p.m. Donations in her memory can be made to the Beaver Head County Humane Society.
