Janice Elaine (Houk) Hamby, 70, passed away August 30th, 2019 at Barrett Memorial Hospital from a long battle with cancer. Janice was born in Clinton, Missouri on December 19th, 1948, to Orville and Mabel Houk. She attended Deepwater High School until she met Charles J. Hamby. They were married in Brownington, Missouri on December 18th, 1965. Janice worked for Rivals on the assembly line, putting can openers together in Clinton until their first son, Charles Edward Hamby was born in 1967. In July 1973, they came to Dillon on vacation to visit family. They loved the area so much they moved here. Charles went to work for Pfizer’s, while Janice stayed at home to raise their children. Their second son, Mark, was born in 1977 and daughter, Margie LeAnna, in 1979. Janice loved to take care of her family and friends. No one ever left their home hungry or cold. Janice enjoyed fishing and hunting, and never passed up on a good yard sale or flea market. After her family was raised, she went back to work. She was employed at Liberty’s Dollar Store, Alco, and Lastly Kings department store where she made many friends in toyland. Janice is preceded in death by her parents Orville and Mabel Houk, brothers Denver, Kenneth, Edward and James Houk of Deepwater, MO, sister Margie Lightle of Deepwater, MO, and son Mark Hamby. She is survived by husband Charles J. Hamby (Dillon), son Charles E. and Veronica Hamby (Belgrade), daughter Margie and Shaun Lenegar (Dillon), extended family John and Vonnie Knapp (Dillon), grandchildren Cole and Rosa Hamby; Ashley, Taylor, Shane, and Katherine Lenegar; Tina Phillips, Lisa Browning, J.R. Phillips, Kameron Phillips, Hillary Whitney, Besi Wilson, B.J. Sanders, and numerous great grandchildren. A visitation will be held at Brundage Funeral Home on September 3rd, 2019 from 5PM – 8PM, a funeral service will be held at Brundage Funeral Home on September 4th, 2019 at 10:30AM followed by a small committal at Mountain View Cemetery. Reception will be at Beaverhead River Cowboy Church on the 4th following the conclusion of the service.
