Helen Lydia Smith 88 of Dillon passed away at home October 16, 2021 after a stroke. Not Covid. She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Lydia (Levanen) Johnson, brother Dale Johnson, sister Ann Patterson and daughter Kathy Skipper. Helen was born in Arthyde MN on October 20, 1932 to Arthur and Lydia Johnson. She was the oldest of 5 children. Her family moved to Butte in 1941 and lived on the East Side (Fin Town) She went to the Grant School and graduated from Butte High. Helen did numerous different kinds of jobs growing up. She loved being a candy striper at St. James Hospital, Elevator Girl at Finland Hotel and Hennesy's. She was a Telephone Operator at Mountain Bell, and was a secretary for Montana Power Company. She met the love of her life, Harley Smith and they married on February 24, 1952. They had 2 daughters. Kathy and Terri, their pride and joy. Helen grew up in a loving family full of music. She taught herself to play piano and guitar by ear. She liked to camp, motorcycle ride, bake and work with artificial flowers. Her family meant the world to her. Everyone stopped by for her chocolate chip cookies and a hug. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She took great pride in a clean home. She loved company, holidays, and long phone conversations. She was always up for a good western, spooky show and the 10:00 news. Helen is survived by her loving husband of 69 years Harley Smith, Daughter Terri McIntosh (Tony), Son in law Dan Skipper, Sister Jeanette (Rodger) Knoell, Brother Dave (Shirley) Johnson. Grandsons Jason (Michele) Smith, Shevee McIntosh. Granddaughters Marci (Dan) Fourneir, Danielle Skipper. Great Grandkids Alicia (Eric) Wendland, Erin (James) Schrader,Lexie and Brianna Belice, Marissa McIntosh, Grace and Shay Fourneir, Tylor and Rylee Brazil. Great Great Grandchildren Landen, Alydia, Layne and Cole Wendland and Mia Schrader. Numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and people that loved her dearly. Helen, you are so missed by so many that thought of you as Gram and came for your cookies. We are so glad God gave you back to us after your first stroke. It was 28 wonderful days. You got to see and talk to all the family before God called you home again. We love you to pieces. You will always be in our hearts and thoughts. We love you. Cremation has taken place at Brundage Funeral Home. There will be a memorial service on November 6th at the Legacy activity center at noon.
